It’s so good to see you all!

The library staff has been busy over the summer. Please study the library site to see the updated, Accelerated Reader List, plus the list of audio-visual material available to the staff for use in their classrooms, plus a list of good adult reading available to the staff for their personal, recreational, or educational, reading!.

ALSO: A COPY OF St. John's Library ACCELERATED READER LIST WILL BE AT PLUM PUBLIC LIBRARY, AND ALSO AT PENN HILLS LIBRARY

Each classroom will have a copy of these lists for the instructor’s referral if there are questions about a particular item There are also six copies for students to consult in the library, plus all the info on the computer sites for the various titles. The list is too long for the school to provide individual copies, but you can certainly download it from the library website!
Remember, many books with lower reading levels are designed to appeal to the Junior High Level student because of story line. An unusually high point count, with a very low reading level, would fall into this class. We add a special column to our AR list to indicate the best audience for the book. Parents – be alert!

Students are already involved: Grades7 & 8 have both completed a literary/artistic/vocal project that supplements the classroom assignments.
Gr. 6 will be looking at history beginning with the ancient Greeks and Romans, etc. Gr. 8 will also be learning the meaning of the myriad terms that pop up at ELECTION TIME in our country.

Gr. 4 has looked at famous sports figures and learned about BIOGRAPHIES and how to find them in any library.
Ask Grade 2 what animal “walks by itself and all places are the same to it” and ask them who was man’s FIRST FRIEND according to Rudyard Kipling.
Check on the ‘CYCLE OF LIFE” and BOA CONSTRICTORS WITH Grade 1
ALSO: THESE STUDENTS HAVE BEEN PICKING MORE CHALLENGING BOOKS TO GIVE THEMSELVES A PUSH TO EXCELLENCE. Ask Gr. 3 Nicholas Ammon about famous classical composers, and also, about Assyrians!!!!!!!!!

Please check the Library’s BLOG FOR NOVEMBER as to details of “DONATING TO ST.
